Winter mess

I've been at Five Rivers this evening. The Friends' Board got together to review its work, welcome new members and remind ourselves who's on which sub-committee. Turnout was good, which couldn't just have been because pizza and home-baked cookies were on offer. It's a nice Board to serve on, as everyone notes.

I had a cheery time at Five Rivers this morning, too, revising winter training.  Normally we'd be out discovering tracks in the snow this time of year, but instead we got to examine deer hoofprints in mud, red squirrel larders (below) that wouldn't usually be visible and a surprising amount of greenery that shouldn't be around at all in January.  It was cold, but a beautiful day to be out.

Tomorrow might not be so beautiful, for at long last we're expecting a winter storm!  Or rather a "winter mess" as it's being billed: snow, sleet and freezing rain.  The kids are holding out for a snow delay - we shall see.
