We were out tonight with all the Exiles, experiencing a local parade. It featured a few old fire trucks and a rather handsome trolleybus, all bedecked with twinkly lights. Also a completely unadorned sewerage truck which added a certain je ne sais quoi.
We got to see our building surveyor doing his winter job - or at any rate, we saw a bearded rosy-cheeked fellow dressed in red handing out candy. Candy featured rather heavily in the whole proceedings. Members of the parade were handing the stuff out willy-nilly, too, even throwing it onto the road so that small children could ignore all they'd ever been taught about road safety as they dashed into the traffic to pick it up.
Don't worry, not really. There wasn't any traffic.
Luckily the children were all presented with plastic fire chief helmets, which made great candy receptacles. And when these were full the children piled the goodies into the Classic Red Wagon that the Exile had sensibly brought along, perhaps with this contingency in mind.
