I think (fingers crossed) our chipmunk problem is over. I haven't seen much of them since we opened the pool - probably they don't like all the activity, or the noise of the pump. Also, before we removed it, they'd taken to running across the safety cover in search of wind-blown seeds, and this perhaps is why one of them soon ended up in the pool, taking a first and final swim. Very sad.
And apart from the dangers and disturbance of the pool, we've had a new visitor from a couple of doors down who regularly stalks the patio and may have seen the rest of them off: a large and rather mean-looking cat.
At least it's not one of these.
