Placid pursuits
We're in the middle of a long weekend here (Columbus Day tomorrow) so we've come up to Lake Placid. We especially enjoyed the scenic drive through Keene Valley, with the sun shining on all the fall colours. This road was closed for quite a while after taking a battering from Tropical Storm Irene in August. We saw lots of fallen trees in the forest on either side of the road.
Lake Placid is busy - mostly with Canadians, here for their Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow. Half the guests in our hotel are speaking French, lending our little vacation a cosmopolitan air.
We have been doing the things we like to do here at this time of year. It may be a long way to come for Ben & Jerry's ice-cream, swimming & boating and fries from a particular pizzeria, but you might as well do what makes you happy. Tomorrow perhaps we'll try something new.
A note to anyone reading who ever gets emails from me and may have received an odd-looking one in the last day or two. Don't open any attachments! My Hotmail account has been invaded by a spammer - I'll be trying to fix the problem when we get home.
