Awe. And then some.

We're at the Grand Canyon.  It's awesome.  Completely, utterly awesome.

We spent eight hours today hiking five miles down the Bright Angel Trail into the canyon, and five miles up again, an elevation of about 3,000 feet. We took it slowly, stopping at the rest houses we came to and refilling our water bottles, and all along the way enjoying the amazing views.   Although it can get formidably hot in the lower part of the canyon, today we were lucky.  The sky was cloudless blue, but the temperature stayed bearable even in the middle of the day.  A Park Ranger we met on the trail agreed that we were incredibly lucky to have such perfect conditions.

At the end of the day we joined the crowds at the South Rim to watch the sunset.  And now, very happy and very tired, it's time to sleep.
