Empty Bowls

Tonight was Empty Bowls night at school, highlighting hunger in the world. Every child in the school had made a pottery bowl in art class, and these were displayed for parents to buy - all monies going to a local homeless shelter. The Eighth Graders gave a presentation of facts they had learnt about world hunger and showed us this video (bear with the blurry opening).

The director of the shelter then spoke about the plight of local homeless people, and the older kids served us soup they'd made themselves.

Coming so soon after the cold and discomfort that many of us experienced during the recent power cut, the evening made us even more keenly aware than usual that generally we want for nothing, and that we can and should do more for those in less fortunate circumstances.
