It's life, Jill, but not as we know it

I listened to a fascinating broadcast on NPR today: Rocket Girls and Astro-nettes, about women working for NASA in the early days of the Space programme.  If you have an hour, follow the link and give it a go.* It's full of "Woaah! They got away with treating women like that? Seriously??" moments - as when the reporter questioning a traineee astronaut asks her "Shouldn't a pretty girl like you be worrying more about finding a husband, not going into Space?"

Yikes!

And what was I doing while listening to these amazing pioneers, reaching for the stars and inspiring women everywhere to break through the boundaries of expectation?  Since you ask, I was cleaning the kitchen and baking cookies.

Sigh. Where did I go wrong?
