The Girl and some of her fellow Irish dancers are now advanced enough to progress to hard shoe dancing. That's like tap dancing but with more kicking and stomping, and it requires new shoes with hard heels and toes.
I was looking at some online this afternoon (there's nowhere to buy them locally). Hmm. They don't run quite as expensive as good ice skates, but we're still talking three figures. And I've never liked the idea of buying shoes online, anyway, because you really do want them to fit... Anyway, by good fortune we found out tonight that the one girl in the class who already dances hard shoe has just grown out of her pair and they're a perfect fit for our Girl. So we got lucky there - luck of the not-really Irish, maybe?
