Today, for the first time, Friends of Five Rivers marched in the Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade. It was fun! There were a few of us board members plus some of our kids and their friends. We carried a banner, and handed out FFR-logo tattoos ('cause there's nothing like branding your younger supporters), among other things .
A couple of 7th Graders took turns sporting the owl costume. They hammed it up wonderfully, especially when we passed any pretty girls in shorts, which happened quite often. Remarkably, given all the fleece, fur and feathers they were wearing, they managed not to faint in the heat. We also had the world's-cutest-three-year-old with us, disguised as a bat, and he was very popular too.
As we marched by people clapped and cheered and shouted out "Yay! Five Rivers!" and "We LOVE Five Rivers!" which was rather gratifying. (The Girl claims they were only saying it so that we would throw them some candy, but I'm prepared to take the love at face value.)
My kids were not the eagerest participants, though they did at least stick with it to the end. But, as they explained to me, it's not too cool to be in a parade (and you definitely miss out on candy collecting) and so, apparently, I owe them. Big time.
BTW, sorry there are no photos. The Man is off on his travels again and has taken the camera with him (we were up at 4am - whaaat? - to get him to the airport for his flight). More, I'm sure, anon.
