Actually we mostly stood still, which is also something well worth doing in a wildlife preserve. The creatures came to us - we spotted two kinds of turtle, fish, a frog (we heard a lot more of those), a heron, a beaver and a muskrat. A bit later, sitting at the viewing window inside the nature center, we watched woodpeckers (red-bellied and downy), a blue-jay, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinches, a hummingbird and a rose-breasted grosbeak - quite a colourful cabaret around the birdfeeders.
Later still in the day, towards dusk, Dad and I took a brisker hike around a different trail and met a family of geese and lots of bunnies. There's always something to see on the trails. It may not have views quite as breathtaking as the Grand Canyon, but Five Rivers is still a great place to enjoy the wonders of Nature.
For some reason 'Springwatch' has become a major hit in our house this year. Perhaps you should do your own American version? Well, it's a thought.BillAlbanyOddie
