The world's restaurant

Tonight's delight:  the International Food Festival at the Girl's Middle School.

The cafeteria was bustling.  Parents and students cruised around the perimeter of the room clutching paper plates onto which they spooned (among other things) Chinese and Polish dumplings, Mexican salsa, Irish Colcannon,  Italian pasta, Japanese yakitori, German apple pudding, French dauphinoise, Vietnamese summer rolls, Canadian butter tarts, Hungarian goulash and...

...British chips with malt vinegar. Sorry, sorry to everyone who was rooting for me to serve something else.  I was too pushed for time in the end.  Anyway, honest to goodness, they went down a storm - this photo was taken only two minutes after I'd put them out.  And after all, chips with salt and vinegar wrapped in newspaper are a genuine taste of Britain - well, aren't they?
