Golden Girl

We're usually pretty slow to get going on a Saturday.  But this morning was even more hectic than a school day - up early and bustling about, and all of us out the door well before 8:00am.  We had to get to Troy by 8:20, to check in at the Garren Invitational - the Girl's first skating competition!

It was a very well-run event, held in the wonderful ice arena at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Competitors had come from far and wide, many from out-of-state.  Nervous, sparkly-dressed girls aplenty!  Our own Girl was competing in one of the more advanced "basic" categories, in the opening third of the schedule.  She was showcasing a new red velvet dress we'd bought for the occasion, and very lovely she looked.

Well, cutting to the chase - she won in her category!  Admittedly, it was a field of only two. She'll say herself that she fluffed a couple of moves, but overall she looked good and her coach was pleased with her (and quite surprised by her apparent sang-froid). And hey - she won!  She has a gold (coloured) medal to prove it.

We headed off after the Basic Skills section's award ceremony (the competition was set to go on all day) - and we were home before we'd normally be out of our pyjamas.
