Taxing challenges

The Girl beat her dad at Othello this morning and has asked me to record the fact.  She got into playing it the other day when she was off school.  Different combinations of us have been playing it on and off all week.

The Boy, of course, can never play a board game without being inspired to invent a version of his own.  He has come up with something quite interesting with the Othello pieces.  He calls it "John and Jonah", and it involves prisoners and generals.  It's confusing, but actually not his most bonkers creation, and the Girl even claims to enjoy playing it.  It has an intriguing twist - there are two ways to win (get your prisoner home or capture your opponent's general) - so you have to keep your wits about you.

After the spring that was winter, we've now skipped on to summer - it has been a lovely warm day today, and we're looking forward to a week of high temperatures and sunshine.  At yet the poor Man has had to spend much of this sunny Sunday plodding through his US tax return - a project seemingly more endless and baffling even than one of the Boy's games.
