Cooling off

These hot, muggy days it's hard to motivate people to get up and go anywhere. But both kids were enthusiastic when friends rang to invite us to go bowling (and even happier when a trip to an ice-cream shop was added to the deal).

In the end we all went along, and though I can generally think of plenty of places I'd rather be than a bowling alley, today it was fine just to be somewhere cool.

The boys in the party played a straight, mildly competitive game. The G/girls ended up devising their own competition based on who could throw their ball in the silliest way. There was a lot of giggling and general enjoyment, and by the time we came out the temperature was beginning to moderate: tonight it even passes for comfortable.
