Talent to amuse, and amaze

Hot on the heels of Spring Sing, the annual school talent show was held tonight. Whereas the first event is much rehearsed and almost formal (by the standards of this school), the talent show has a true spirit of joie-de-vivre about it which makes it very likeable.

There was singing, there was dancing - some of it wild and uninhibited, some of it...minimalist. There was a skit or two, and instrumental solos. A couple of kids performed their own compositions (one sang her own song very impressively, though with her back to the audience). Probably my favourite act was the tiny 2nd Grader who chose to demonstrate a series of skipping rope moves to the theme from Rocky.

As a finale, two 2nd Graders performed a comedy routine to 'Favourite Things' from The Sound of Music. It was just a good laugh, and then one of them started to sing. I swear the audience gave a collective gasp of astonishment: for the mop-haired seven year-old had the voice of an angel.
