Groundhog Day

Today is Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil (apparently the original and best forecasting groundhog) saw his own shadow this morning and predicts that there will be six more weeks of winter.

According to his guardians, Phil is more than 120 years old. Remarkable.

I don’t know anything about Punxsutawney except that it’s in Pennsylvania, but having an immortal and talented rodent certainly guarantees attention from the big news syndicates, once a year at least. It’s something Linton could consider instituting: a yearly appearance by Linton Lizzie, the weather weasel perhaps? Or Freddy the flood-forecasting ferret? A sure-fire way to get a mention on BBC Look East.

The kids were invited to a glow-in-the-dark mini-golf birthday party today, which was very…glowy. I managed to avoid going round the course with them (the Man had that privilege) but stood about talking Presidential politics with some other moms (the women here, unlike the men, aren’t so distracted by the Superbowl).
