License to play

For much of the day we enjoyed the company two little girls, friends of the Boy and Girl, while their parents (the_exile and Exile #2) went on a compulsory 5-hour driving theory course. The latter is a requirement, along with a written and a practical test, for anyone wanting a New York driver's license - a whole lot of fun that still awaits us.

All went well in the morning. The children only emerged from their fantasy world occasionally for refuelling purposes (except for the three-year-old who mostly just concentrated on eating, with occasional brief play-breaks).

There were a few frayed tempers after lunch (on the part of the younger hosts) but calm was soon restored, and by the time our guests' parents returned everyone was playing happily again in the warm late afternoon sunshine.
