Booting up

The children had an extra day off school today, so we all took the Man into work. Then we went out for breakfast at a 'proper' cafe with a waiter and waitress who called the Girl 'Miss' as they served her pancakes and syrup, which was all rather grown-up and special. The Boy meanwhile ate dry bran flakes straight out of a packet, which detracted from the elegance of the occasion a tiny bit, but no-one else seemed to mind so neither did we.

The task of the day was to buy snow boots for the kids. The Boy was more positive about this than I'd anticipated. He was still chortling to himself about 'snow butts'. Although it took him a while to make up his mind (he truly is our son) he did finally plump for a pair. Far from resisting wearing them, he has now given up on trainers (sneakers) in favour of the new snow boots, which does look a little comical as he has also just given up on trousers in favour of shorts.

This evening I accompanied Exile #2 to a meeting of the local babysitting cooperative. When I told the Boy where I was going he said 'Why do you want to get to know babysitters? You never go out.' Think you answered your own question there, Boy.
