The early bird...

Got up early this morning in order to catch a worm. In fact we got lucky and caught two. The Boy was very thrilled and popped them in a shoebox full of soil and leaves which he then took to school on the bus (the driver kindly turned a blind eye - strictly speaking pets are forbidden on school transport).

His new interest in minibeasts comes from all the nature study they do in his class. They have a tank of bullfrog tadpoles and an ant farm, and they have also watched the evolution of a caterpillar into a monarch butterfly. They are required to make observational drawings of the things they study - though when they were looking at cabbage leaves recently the Boy was clearly focused on the bigger picture. He produced a fine sketch of a lots of chairs round a table, a tiny splodge of green barely discernible in the middle.

The children are also encouraged to draw a frame round all their pictures. Guess what frame the Boy invariably draws? Yep, a train track. That's m'Boy.
