Tonight we went to the library for a talk by prolific local children's author, James Preller. The Girl is a fan of his Jigsaw Jones detective series. The audience was full of similar-aged children, many of them clutching well-thumbed Jigsaw Jones books.
However the book Mr Preller was promoting and reading from this time was really for slightly older children, and all about baseball, so the talk didn't really work for us. That was a shame. Nevertheless we lined up to have a book signed. The Girl had one of her birthday 'pets' with her - the labrador puppy - and it turns out the Preller family have just got themselves a real labrador/poodle puppy, so there was a tiny but nice moment of bonding.
