My parents and I decided to head to downtown Albany this morning to take in a few landmarks. The media must have got wind of our coming as they were there in force waiting for us, taking up half the parking with their satellite vans, and cluttering the sidewalk with on-the-spot reporters.
Or maybe they were just there to cover the swearing in of the new State Governor, David Paterson? He's the first black Governor of New York State, and the first blind Governor of any US state. To add to the excitement, Mayor Bloomberg was up from NYC for the occasion, and Hillary Clinton too, hot off the campaign trail. There seems to be much good will towards Governor Paterson, for now at least, after the breathtaking fall from grace of his predecessor.
Tonight the Man and I slipped out for a belated wedding anniversary dinner at a local bistro - bracing walk there and back, but a relaxing meal. Thanks to Mum and Dad for babysitting.
