Books books books
A couple of weeks ago I loaded up the car, then our garage, with a lot of second-hand books that had been collected at the Middle School. Today we delivered them to their destination, the old Albany YMCA, which is home to Grassroot Givers.
After they'd lugged all the books in, the Girl and other members of her Girl Scout group sorted them into categories (non-fiction, picture books, readers etc) so that they'll be easier for recipients to pick from later. Mostly it's Albany teachers who come in and choose books for their students, many of whom don't have books of their own at home.
The girls worked hard and fast and had soon sorted the 894 books we'd arrived with. Wow, that was a lot of books!
The girls were also given a tour of the whole Grassroot Givers operation, and gained some insight into the services it provides. And after the sorting effort they got to hang out in the former lap pool, sitting on some old pews that a church had donated, eating doughnuts.
