There was a Friends of Five Rivers fundraiser tonight, held at two local businesses - Mangia Restaurant and Ben's Jammin' Treasures. Both were donating 20% of what customers spent to fund environmental education programs, which was very nice of them. We should know tomorrow how much money was raised. There wasn't a huge turnout, but not too bad for a first-time event.
The guy who runs Ben's Jammin' Treasures (a gift shop with an art-space at the back - where tonight people could make paper-bag owls if they felt like it) is eager to build a community garden behind the building, and I was able to put him in touch with a couple of keen gardeners who were supporting the event. So maybe something good will come of that, too - you never know.
