We'd been having trouble finding one the right size, so at our neighbour's suggestion the Man and I went looking for a 5' x 8' fence panel (to replace the one broken in the recent storm) at a lumber yard in New Scotland.
We'd passed Long Lumber a million times on trips up to Thacher Park, but had never thought to look in. Well, what a treat we'd been missing. Not just cedar fence panels of every variety and size (including ours), but also garden furniture and even rustic bed frames, all made there on the premises. The showroom of course smells lovely and cedary.
Unusually (I imagine) for a fence-and-furniture store, the showroom also features a range of animal skins and stuffed wildlife. Hunting and taxidermy were apparently the great passions of the original Mr. Long, and his animals are kept on display for old times' sake. However Mr Long's sons are not particularly sentimental about their late dad's collection, and are selling it off on an ad hoc basis. So, if you are in the market for a bear skin, or even a whole stuffed bear, this is the place for you. Looking for a picnic table and a mounted stag's head? It's your one stop shop.

We too need some fencing repairs but its too far to Mr Longs
