Spring doesn't quite happen here in upstate New York, or at least not in the same breathtakingly magical way that it happens in Britain, and not at this point in the year. After the snow melts there's a period of leafless dreariness, some blossom for a day or two, then, blink, and it's summer - that's more how it seems to go. However, I noted some signs today of what passes for spring: crocuses in our front yard. There should be a few daffodils, too, in a week or two, thanks to my efforts in the fall.
The main event of the day was the kids' trip to the dentist. They survived the usual cleaning ordeal and what-not, and were once more (to my astonishment) both declared cavity-free. In celebration we, very wickedly, decided not to hurry straight back to school. Instead we stopped off at a diner for a late breakfast (well, we had all had to get up terribly early in order to make the appointment, and sitting around with your mouth open makes you very hungry). Half and hour, a huge muffin / pancakes and bacon later, and two very full and cheerful children were ready to rejoin their classmates. See, going to the dentist can be fun!
