We're staying in a small cottage in Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island. It's one of a few towns dotted between large stretches of Acadia National Park.
It took us a while today to get our bearings and stock up on provisions, but eventually this afternoon we took ourselves to Sand Beach, which is part of the park. As the name suggests, it's a beach and it's sandy - which is actually quite unusual up here. It was great. Not deserted, but not unpleasantly crowded. Man and kids spent a long time in the sea (too cold for me) and eventually emerged shivering but still cheerful. All in all, an excellent start to our main, Maine vacation.
Isnt that "Carousel" country where June was busting out all over? Are you going to have a mighty fine clam bake and never walk alone?
ReplyDeleteApparently Carousel was filmed in Boothbay Harbor, about 100 miles from here.
