The Man writes...as promised I got up and went outside at 4am this morning for the lunar eclipse. Unfortunately this wasn't quite the jolly, community event I had hoped for. Everyone else seemed to have stayed in bed, perhaps put off by the temperature of -10C and the 100% cloud cover. Here anyway is my picture of the 2010 lunar eclipse from Albany, New York.
I had an early start on Monday too for a 9am meeting some 120 miles away. It was over by lunchtime, so we found a small, convivial restaurant nearby in the quaintly named town of Fishkill. The owner regaled us with the story of the visit of Mikhail Gorbachev (plus bodyguards) to his establishment two years ago. This was my local town during my first spell in the US in 1991, and I remember vividly in the August of that year reading about the coup attempt against Gorbachev, which seemed for a while to threaten to reverse all the reforms of the old Soviet Union.
At least it stopped me saying "Wot no Eclipse pics"
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should take the lens cap off next time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Livid, but it's an automatic, digital, point-'n-shoot thingy. Foolproof.
ReplyDeleteBtw (matter of interest) what would your husband say/do if you prodded him awake at 4am in the middle of winter and said "go outside and get a photo of the eclipse for my blog" ?
Fishkill is not exactly wire-less is it?
ReplyDeleteAs well as the winter solstice we had the full eclipse of the moon, record low temperatires and an earthquake in Cumbria.Isnt life
exciting!
Well done for getting up-I bet it was cold!
It wasnt anonymous.itwas me!
ReplyDeleteFor a chap renowned for his honesty, you don't half tell some porky pies sometimes, Man. "Last chance to see the eclipse," is what I helpfully whispered at 4am, having just been awakened myself by the Boy who had (tiresomely)wandered in looking for company...
