Pita luck

The Man writes...usually lunch for me means a trip to a chain sandwich shop in a local strip mall, but today my colleague/lunch taxi driver suddenly declared "I feel like a falafel".

Soon after we were making the short trip across the Hudson to the historic city of Troy.  We found a great little Middle Eastern cafe in the Antique District serving a delicious lunch. For some reason, every time I visit Troy I'm surprised again by how attractive parts of it are.  There are any number of unique cafes and stores, spilling on to the street on a sunny day, among splendid Victorian buildings which remind us that a hundred years ago this was once one of the most prosperous cities in the country.

Although it was lunchtime and the weather was perfect there were very few people around. Of course the strip mall is quick and convenient, but if you have the time this is sooo much better...

  1. Troy looks very English. The street lights and the trees add to its beauty and has more character than the modern concrete towns we usually see

  2. Maybe stating the obvious, but we have to appreciate and encourage traditional town centres on both sides of the Atlantic unless we want to see nothing but soul-less big box stores, massive malls and drive-thru fast food.

  3. Visiting strip malls in your lunch time? Albaniana, did you know about this? And so blasé about it too.

  4. You're welcome. Troy is full of great independent businesses many of which deal in espresso.
