Fair Trade morning

Before we set off for skiing yesterday lunchtime I spent the morning at a synagogue in Niskayuna.  The congregation there was holding an "introduction to fair trade" event, with speakers and stallholders, coffee and kosher fair trade chocolate sampling.  There was a good turnout and a lot of enthusiasm.

I've been involved with many fair trade functions at churches, but this was the first local Jewish event of this kind that I've been invited to. Social justice is an important tenet of Judaism (as one of the speakers, a rabbi, pointed out) so fair trade felt like a good fit for the setting. 

I already  knew several of the other exhibitors and sellers from previous fairs and what-not, so it was a happy gathering with old friends, and a good chance to make some new contacts too.
