Involvement with refugees in Albany has introduced me to a whole different world.
I've found myself in interesting neighbourhoods I'd had no reason to visit before. I've had bemusing encounters with the Department of Social Security, and dealings with agencies I never knew existed. In a few short weeks I've already learnt a lot (not least, how much more I've still got to learn) about life on the margins.
Most of all, I've been meeting good people facing bewildering and frustrating problems, and other good people willing to spend every day trying to address those problems. I'm endlessly impressed by the resiliance of the former, and by the patience of the latter.
