If you know anything about our kids you'll not be surprised to hear that they didn't take being marched across Manhattan the other day lying down. The Boy did try sitting down a couple of times, in protest. Mostly though the two of them made their feelings known with a steady stream of light to moderate whingeing.
For the Boy, at least, there was a direct benefit from all that walking. He has something called a Pokewalker which is a sort of bells-and-whistles electronic step-counter. He carries it with him wherever he goes because he can later download the steps into one of his games where "steps mean virtual prizes". In NYC he walked just shy of 30,000 steps - his all time record.
As for the Girl, well, in the end we just got tired of her moaning. We had a word with a street vendor and traded her in for something cuter.
